The 2011 theme for WordPress is sophisticated, lightweight, and adaptable. Make it yours with a custom menu, header image, and background -- then go further with available theme options for light or dark color scheme, custom link colors, and three layout choices. Twenty Eleven comes equipped with a Showcase page template that transforms your front page into a showcase to show off your best content, widget support galore (sidebar, three footer areas, and a Showcase page widget area), and a custom "Ephemera" widget to display your Aside, Link, Quote, or Status posts. Included are styles for print and for the admin editor, support for featured images (as custom header images on posts and pages and as large images on featured "sticky" posts), and special styles for six different post formats.
This theme is old and, at first glance, rather basic. But even now on the tail end of 2015 I love it. It’s fully customisable, and there are plenty of plugins to give single posts/pages sidebars, and you can adjust fonts and all sorts of things. It’s literally all you need for a personal blog that doesn’t require any fuss.
1: no favicon.ice statment in the header.php file like most other themes have. 2: The load-queue in regards to child and parent themes seem not to follow the best practice for themes. To have the child theme load in the correct order you need to use a little more complex function in your “functions.php” than you normal do. GUIDE
It seems this theme has not been kept up-to-date with the modern standards/best practice guideline
This is wonderful! I have had a WP.com blog for a year now & I have changed my theme to Twenty Eleven. Although I have a test site I’m still getting confused especially about the showcase page. If I follow you instructions above, what happens to my present page that is marked ‘home’? Does that become my showcase page? What happens to all my posts?
I am using this theme as I wanted a simple and clean look. I’d like a few easy edit options that it doesn’t have built in, i.e. the option to show only part of my post on the home page instead of the entire post. On longer posts it makes the front page very long.
