After previewing what looked like an attractive WordPress theme, I went to install, but received the following error:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘[‘ in /var/sites/n/natalya.uk/public_html/wp-content/themes/magnum-opus/inc/template-tags.php on line 419
I thought perhaps the install had failed and tried to go back to my WordPress admin area. The theme had brought this down too, as well as a site I was using as a portfolio. So I was locked out.
I FTP’d into the file in question and looked at the line with the syntax error. It was an array and the syntax itself looked fine. I even ran the file through a PHP syntax checker, but it found no errors. I was really hoping the syntax error was going to be a quick fix, but it wasn’t.
So yeah, install at the risk of your site going down!
